A strong community is the key to a better life for the individual and the family. A strong community is a thinking, initiating and creative community.
We invite you to take an active part in social and community initiatives for you, and the Weizmann neighborhood community. The following are the various community initiatives and programs in the Weizmann neighborhood:
The Weizmann Time Bank – trade time instead of money!
The Time Bank is a community economic initiative in which people "deposit” their time by providing services. Everyone can give and everyone can receive, with time serving as the currency.
For example: One hour of babysitting equals one hour of guitar lessons, or any other creative ideas you may have.
We invite you to take part in the database and the human capital of the community and enjoy what the bank has to offer.
SHALEM – National Service for Adult Volunteering
SHALEM is a nation-wide movement at community centers, for retirement-age adults who no longer work. The movement operates a variety of programs which meet the various needs of the community.
The movement’s vision: SHALEM sees adult national service as an opportunity for personal fulfillment, realizing ones potential, and a way to ensure a smooth transition from employment to retirement. The senior citizen volunteers are a first-rate national economic resource which offers professional human capital, knowledge and experience as well as high motivation, and can meet the growing needs of the society in which we live.
As a social movement, SHALEM emphasizes "the social glue” to bond volunteers together, enrich them, and strengthen the group’s pride through social clubs in community centers throughout Israel.
The movement’s various programs include: ZAHAV in the kindergarten, SHALEM in education, touring community and more.

Weizmann Neighborhood Community Garden
At the wonderful community garden in the Weizmann neighborhood, you can get to know the world of flowers and plants, and learn about environmental protection.
During the year, fascinating activities for parents and children will take place on Thursdays at the community garden, as well as community events prior to holidays.
The garden is located on 35 Ben Saruk Street and is run by neighborhood volunteers, guided by the Community Center, the Environmental Unit and the Community Work Unit.
The garden is open on Sundays and Thursdays at 4:30pm, participation is free of charge and open to all ages.
The Story Returns Library
The Story Returns Library has come to the Javor Community Center!
The Story Returns is a community service which encourages use of second-hand books, run entirely by people with employment difficulties. Working at The Story Returns provides them with professional tools and an opportunity to re-adapt to the job market.
A small purchase is a large act, so come take part!
Books may be purchased at the community center’s front desk.
Weizmann Women’s Club
The Weizmann Women’s Club is a long-running club with 15 neighborhood women members.
As part of the club, the women’s group is exposed to a variety of workshops and enriching lectures, as well as activities for themselves and for the community.
Study Center
The goal of the study center is to provide all students with a feeling of success, while emphasizing personal empowerment and instilling a strong sense of personal capability. From the early stages of the student’s acceptance process until the end of the study process, the student receives close guidance, support and assistance in everything needed in order to progress and overcome learning barriers, and in the end, improve his or her school achievements. The center has a moral and educational curriculum with clear goals. The study center is for children of all ages - from preparation for first grade through high school. Through study, we grant the student learning tools, skills, and strategies.
The core subjects studied at the center are: language (literacy) – remedial instruction, math and English.
These core subjects can be studied in three different tracks:
- Private lessons taught by a professional teacher. Cost per lesson: NIS 80.
- Group lessons taught by a professional teacher. Cost per month: NIS 280.
- Private lessons taught by "young teachers” (trained through the 10th grade community service program). Cost per lesson: NIS 40.
